David Michael Jr., aged 37, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away on November 5, 2025, following a prolonged struggle with mental health challenges. Born on February 29, 1988, David was the son of David Cotter Sr. and Anne Marie Bluhm. His journey through life was marked by his commitment to education and service, earning his GED and enlisting in the United States Army National Guard.
David served diligently from October 12, 2005 to October 11, 2007, achieving the rank of Private First Class (PFC) while stationed at Fort Benning in Atlanta, Georgia. He received several medals and honors for his service, which he regarded as a significant part of his life.
After his military service, David transitioned to a career as a barge deckhand with Upper River Services. His interests included fishing, playing video games, bowling, and passionately supporting the Minnesota Vikings. Friends and family remember him for his big, comforting hugs, infectious laughter, and a sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.
David’s love for his family, particularly his children—David Cotter III, Marianna Cotter, Nakoma Cotter, and Cayda Cotter—was profound. He was known for always being there for them in times of need, embodying the essence of support and care.
Tragically, David was preceded in death by several family members, including his great-grandparents, Frances Bluhm and Samuel Bluhm; his grandfather, Fredrick Bluhm Sr.; his grandmother, Theresa Bluhm; stepfather, Robert Chavez; sister, Mary Anne Bluhm; and uncles, Thomas Bluhm Jr. and Frederick Bluhm Jr. He is survived by his brother, Christopher Thull; sister, Cesley Chavez; mother, Anne Marie Bluhm; uncle, Mark Bluhm; father, David Cotter Sr.; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
A service in memory of David Michael Jr. will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Galilee Lutheran Church in Roseville, Minnesota. The service is scheduled to run from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Following the service, interment will occur at the Union Cemetery in Maplewood, Minnesota.
