Beloved Ballston Spa Mayor Christine Fitzpatrick Passes Away

BREAKING: The community of Ballston Spa is mourning the loss of Christine Mary Fitzpatrick, who passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 75. Fitzpatrick, the first female mayor of Ballston Spa and a dedicated public servant, leaves behind a legacy of compassion and community advocacy.

Christine’s family confirmed her passing, describing her as a beloved wife to the late David L. Maynard, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend. Born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, Christine grew up in a large family in Queens, surrounded by loving relatives and a rich Irish heritage. Her early education began at St. Joseph’s in Astoria, followed by Saint Helena High School in the Bronx, and culminated in a bachelor’s degree in history from St. John’s University.

Fitzpatrick’s remarkable career spanned education, public service, and advocacy. She served as an elementary school teacher and worked at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Washington D.C. Her dedication to public service was evident during her tenure at Macy’s, Inc. as vice president of employee benefits, and later as the executive director of the New York State Adult Day Health Care Council.

As Ballston Spa’s mayor, Christine was known for her transformative leadership, successfully turning a $300,000 deficit into a $4.8 million fund balance. Her efforts focused on enhancing community engagement and securing essential services through strategic planning and grant funding.

Christine was not only a leader but also a passionate advocate for accessibility and civic involvement. Her adventurous spirit included tandem biking, travel, and a love for the arts, enriching the lives of those around her. Friends and family remember her for her warmth, courage, and her thoughtful cards that uplifted many.

Christine is survived by her siblings, beloved nieces and nephews, and her partner, Richard Dautner. The community is invited to honor her memory during calling hours on Wednesday, December 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa.
