UPDATE: An alarming incident unfolded at the Saratoga Library on November 19, as a suspect attempted to seize a firearm from a deputy during a disturbance. This urgent situation escalated rapidly when the individual, previously involved in an altercation with library staff, was later apprehended after attempting to evade law enforcement on a bicycle.
Deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of the disturbance where the suspect had physically assaulted two library staff members. After fleeing the scene, the suspect was located committing a traffic violation. Upon stopping the individual, deputies discovered an outstanding warrant, leading to further investigation.
During the arrest, the suspect aggressively resisted officers and made a shocking attempt to pull a firearm from a deputy’s holster. Fortunately, deputies were able to subdue the suspect without further incident, and the individual has been booked into the main jail. This brazen act raises serious concerns about safety in public spaces.
In a separate incident on November 21, deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious person at El Quito Park on Paseo Presada. Upon investigation, the individual was found to be under the influence of alcohol and in possession of a shuriken, a type of traditional Japanese concealed weapon. The weapon was surrendered to authorities, and the suspect was transported to a sobering station. This case is now under review by the District Attorney’s Office.
Additionally, on November 22, deputies recovered a stolen vehicle off the roadway at Congress Springs Road and Pierce Road. Investigators confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from San Jose, highlighting ongoing issues with vehicle theft in the area.
