Hy-Vee Gives Away 300 Hams to Rochester Families in Urgent Holiday Drive

UPDATE: Hy-Vee, in collaboration with Hormel Foods, has just launched its annual “Hams for the Holidays” initiative, successfully distributing 300 Hormel Cure 81 hams to local families in Rochester. The giveaway took place earlier today, December 2, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rochester Armory.

This year’s event marks the eighth annual Hams for the Holidays campaign, which aims to combat food insecurity during the festive season. Officials report that the initiative will deliver a total of 5,000 hams across 20 different locations in Hy-Vee’s nine-state region, providing crucial support to families in need.

Chad Launderville, a store director at Hy-Vee, emphasized the company’s commitment to community welfare. “Hy-Vee’s done a lot of great things this year for the community,” he stated. “Between the free meals for kids—where we serve thousands of kids in Rochester—and donating Thanksgiving bags to Rochester Public Schools, we are proud to contribute.”

The urgency of this initiative cannot be overstated, as many families face heightened food insecurity during the holiday season. The Hams for the Holidays program not only provides essential food items but also fosters community spirit and support among local residents.

As the event unfolded, community members gathered at the Rochester Armory, where volunteers worked diligently to ensure a smooth distribution process. Families received their hams with smiles, highlighting the human impact of this generous initiative.

Next, Hy-Vee plans to expand its outreach, continuing to provide essential resources to families throughout the holiday season. With more events on the calendar, community members are encouraged to stay tuned for additional opportunities to receive support.
