UPDATE: Over 200 fans gathered at the Marcus Majestic Cinema in Brookfield, Wisconsin, on Tuesday night for a highly anticipated screening of “Song Sung Blue” featuring Hugh Jackman and director Craig Brewer. The special event was filled with nostalgia and excitement as attendees celebrated their love for Neil Diamond’s music.
The night kicked off with a vibrant lobby reception showcasing live performances of Neil Diamond classics by local musician Kevin Kamin, along with complimentary Kopp’s “Song Sung Blueberry” frozen custard. “I’ve been playing it all my life, so I’m super excited to do this for the opening of the show,” Kamin expressed. The film, which tells the touching story of a Milwaukee couple’s tribute to Neil Diamond, had many fans reflecting on their cherished memories.
For Jamie Hardt of Oconomowoc, the screening was a heartfelt journey back to her childhood. “I saw Lightning and Thunder as a little girl at the state fair, and it was the first cassette I bought with allowance money. This is my childhood coming to life right here,” she said.
As the evening progressed, fans mingled and shared stories while enjoying the themed custard. The mother-daughter duo, Elizabeth Bagley and Camille Spella, traveled from Sussex and Brookfield to participate in the event. “We are enjoying the music of our lives. We grew up with the music,” Bagley stated.
At 8 p.m., the excitement peaked as Greg Marcus, CEO of Marcus Corporation, along with Jackman and Brewer, addressed the audience before the screening commenced. “It’s awesome having him here, supporting the film. And it’s an important film. It’s about Milwaukee. It’s the kind of film people should see together with other people,” Marcus remarked.
Jackman expressed his admiration for Milwaukee and the local frozen custard during his speech. “Oh, that Kopp’s custard,” he laughed. “You guys are incredible. The people of Milwaukee are incredible, and in many ways this story is a celebration of this place and the people that populate this place.”
This premiere highlights not only the film’s connection to the local community but also the joy it brings to those who hold Neil Diamond’s music close to their hearts. As fans relive their fond memories, the impact of such events on community spirit is clear.
With the screening now complete, fans are encouraged to share their experiences and continue celebrating the stories that resonate with their lives.
