UPDATE: A stunning revelation has emerged as authorities confirm that the man suspected in the deadly shooting at Brown University is also believed to have murdered MIT professor Nuno Loureiro. Federal investigators located the primary suspect, Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese national, in a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire, where he reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
During a press conference on Thursday night, U.S. Attorney Leah Foley disclosed that Neves-Valente is the main suspect in the shooting that resulted in the tragic deaths of two Brown University students, Ella Brown and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov. “This evening at approximately 9 p.m., federal agents breached a storage locker in Salem, New Hampshire, in search of Claudio Neves-Valente,” Foley stated. “Federal agents found Neves-Valente dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
This horrific incident unfolded earlier this week, as a manhunt was initiated for the suspected shooter following the double homicide at Brown University, which left the campus community in shock and mourning. Ella Brown, a 19-year-old from Alabama and vice-president of the College Republicans at Brown, and aspiring doctor Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov were both tragically killed.
Additionally, Neves-Valente is believed to be responsible for the murder of Loureiro, who was shot at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts, on October 23, 2023. Loureiro succumbed to his injuries the following day, heightening the urgency surrounding this case.
The connection between Neves-Valente and Loureiro runs deep; both attended the same university in Portugal. This tragic series of events has not only claimed lives but has also left communities at Brown and MIT grappling with shock and grief.
With federal agents concluding their search, the immediate threat appears to have been neutralized, but the impact of these events will resonate for a long time. As investigations continue, officials urge anyone with further information to come forward.
