German Collector Breaks World Record with 11,017 Snow Globes

A German man has shattered his own world record by amassing a remarkable collection of 11,017 snow globes. Klaus Kardinal, who began his passion for snow globes in 1984, has been steadily increasing his collection since he first set a record in 2002 with just 6,100 pieces.

Kardinal’s fascination with these winter-themed treasures is evident in the diversity of his collection, which includes unique items such as a Harley-Davidson-themed snow globe that emits motorcycle sounds and another showcasing a replica of the Titanic appearing to sink. He keeps these whimsical displays in the basement of his home in Nuremberg, Germany, where they create a magical atmosphere.

In discussing his collection, Kardinal remarked, “I love the romance of snow globes and how beautiful they are when you shake them up and the snow falls down.” He believes that snow globes represent an “encapsulation of a perfect world,” albeit one that is not entirely realistic.

Among the collection, the oldest globe dates back to 1889, featuring the Eiffel Tower, while the smallest is no larger than a fingernail and can be worn as a pin. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kardinal added some novelty pieces, including one that contains a roll of toilet paper and another depicting a snowman wearing a mask.

A notable highlight in Kardinal’s collection is a snow globe dedicated to pop star Taylor Swift. This particular piece features a mini typewriter from her 2024 album, further showcasing the broad appeal and cultural significance that snow globes can hold.

Kardinal’s achievement in expanding his collection resonates not only with collectors but also with those who appreciate the artistry and nostalgia embodied in these unique items. His dedication serves as an inspiration for collectors worldwide, demonstrating how a simple passion can lead to remarkable accomplishments.
