URGENT UPDATE: A devastating fire at Llanarch Place Apartments in Upper Darby Township has left one person dead and another in critical condition. The incident occurred on October 28, 2023, with emergency services responding to the scene shortly after 10:30 AM.
This tragic event unfolded rapidly, escalating to a second alarm within just 15 minutes. Firefighters discovered a working fire on the second floor of the three-story complex, rescuing two residents who sustained significant injuries. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased resident.
In addition to the fatalities, several others were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. One firefighter also required medical attention for burn injuries but has since been released.
The fire was confined to a single apartment, but it has impacted the entire community. Approximately 75 residents are now displaced, and officials are coordinating support efforts through local organizations. The Delaware County emergency services, along with the American Red Cross and Salvation Army, are actively assisting those affected.

Meanwhile, Craig’s Tavern has opened its doors as a warm-up spot for anyone affected by the blaze. The local community is rallying together to provide aid during this challenging time.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the township marshal’s office, in conjunction with local police and a state police fire marshal. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
