Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by family and loved ones, Kovacs left behind a rich legacy that spanned his successful career in sales and education, as well as a profound passion for music.
Kovacs devoted much of his professional life to teaching at Dakota Tech, where he inspired countless students. His love for music was ignited in his childhood home and flourished throughout his life. He was an active member of the White Bear Lake High School choir and participated in various liturgical music ensembles. Kovacs also formed several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and the JS Trio, showcasing his dedication to performance and creativity.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kovacs enjoyed woodworking and was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular fondness for golf. He cherished moments spent at the family lake home with his wife, Deb, and took great joy in family gatherings and activities.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs, he is survived by his wife, Deb; his sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan); grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; and siblings, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, Jody Jarvis, and John Kovacs. The family expresses special gratitude to Jody Jarvis for her compassionate support in providing home hospice care for Steve during his final days.

A Celebration of Life for Steven Andrew Kovacs will take place at 14:00 on January 6, 2026. Friends and family are invited to visit one hour prior to the service at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice or to the St. Scholastica Convent (www.sbm.osb.org). This gathering will honor a man whose impact on those around him will be remembered fondly, celebrating the music, love, and laughter he brought into the world.
