UPDATE: Salvatore Maimone, an esteemed member of the community, has passed away at the age of 88. He died peacefully on December 23, 2025, at Capstone Nursing Home, leaving behind a rich legacy of family and friendship.
Born on March 26, 1937, in Meri, Messina, Sicily, Maimone immigrated to the United States in 1971 with his wife, Antonina Maimone, after starting their family in Italy. They settled in Schenectady, New York, where Maimone became a respected mason with Local 190 in Albany and an active member of the Sons of Italy on Hamburg Street.
Maimone was predeceased by his beloved wife in 2006 but is survived by his children, Giuseppe and Orazio Maimone, and a large extended family including grandchildren Nicolina, Angelo, Kamden, Ava, Sal, Anthony, and Roberto, as well as great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. This will be followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m.. Maimone will be laid to rest at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
