UPDATE: A North Carolina teacher, Zoe Welsh, was tragically killed during a home invasion early Saturday morning, police report. Just after 6:30 a.m., Raleigh officers responded to a 911 call from Welsh, who was in the midst of reporting an intruder in her home.
While still on the line with emergency dispatch, Welsh was brutally attacked by the suspect, later identified as Ryan Camacho, 36. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. The Ravenscroft School community is reeling from this devastating loss. A spokesperson expressed, “Zoe has been a cornerstone of our Upper School Science Department. Her loss is deeply felt by all of us who had the privilege of working with her.”
Authorities quickly apprehended Camacho in the vicinity of the incident. He now faces serious charges, including murder and felony burglary. Neighbors are shocked, with one saying, “It’s devastating… I literally live right down the street here, I really don’t know what I can process.”
