IPR.VC Elevates Andrea Scarso to Managing Partner Amid Leadership Shift

European content investment firm IPR.VC has announced significant leadership changes, promoting Andrea Scarso to managing partner as part of its strategy to enhance its international investment approach. Scarso, who joined the firm in 2023 as partner and investment director, has been instrumental in leading IPR.VC’s operations in the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment for the firm. Timo Argillander, the founder and long-serving managing partner, will transition to the role of full-time executive chairman. In this new capacity, he will concentrate on fostering long-term growth and overseeing portfolio development. Additionally, Joonas Pönniö, currently serving as group Chief Financial Officer, has been appointed chief operating officer. His responsibilities will include managing the company’s Luxembourg fund structures and operational processes.

Tanu-Matti Tuominen, a founding partner and the current board chairman, will maintain his position on the board while also overseeing investor relations, marketing, and communications. He will continue to lead the investment committee.

Strategic Growth and Fundraising

These leadership changes come on the heels of a productive year for IPR.VC, which has successfully raised capital across three funds, culminating in the closure of its third fund at €104 million (approximately $121 million). The firm has financed over 60 film and television projects through partnerships with both U.S. and European producers and studios. Notable collaborations include A24, XYZ Films, and mk2 films.

One of the firm’s significant investments is in the film Marty Supreme, featuring Timothée Chalamet, where both Scarso and Argillander serve as executive producers. This film is part of a broader slate alliance with A24, which has also included investments in projects like Materialists and Ari Aster’s Eddington.

Looking ahead, IPR.VC is set to expand its activity in 2025, with investments planned in titles such as Hallow Road, Ash, and Mile End Kicks from XYZ Films, as well as premium series like Hildur, based on novels by Satu Rämo.

Future Initiatives and Development Pipeline

In an effort to bolster its development pipeline, IPR.VC launched IPR LAB in 2024, a research and development arm dedicated to identifying investment opportunities centered on intellectual property across film, television, and other emerging content models. The firm anticipates announcing its first projects later this year.

Founded in 2014, IPR.VC operates as an alternative investment fund manager, regulated by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority. In early 2025, the European Investment Fund committed €25 million (around $29 million) to IPR.VC’s latest fund, further solidifying its position as the largest independent film and television investment fund manager in Europe.
