Several cider producers from Pennsylvania received recognition during the annual Farm Show competition, held on January 6, 2024. Cideries from across the state showcased their craft, with multiple awards presented to standout producers.
Among the top performers was Big Hill Ciderworks, located in Gardners, Adams County. Co-founder and owner Troy Lehman achieved notable success, clinching first and third places in the Traditional Cider category. He also secured third place in the Sour Cider category, third place in the Fruit Cider – Sweet category, and second place in both the Wood Aged and Dessert Cider categories. Established in 2013, Big Hill Ciderworks continues to make its mark in the cider industry.
Another significant winner was Ploughman Cider, based in Aspers, Adams County. Owner Ben Wenk earned first place in the Sour Cider category and tied for third in the Wood Aged category. Caleb Wright, from Armstrong Valley Vineyard & Winery in Dauphin County, also stood out by taking first place in the Hopped Cider category.
As the awards ceremony concluded, a full list of winners was released, highlighting the diversity and quality of ciders produced in the region. The competition featured various classes, including Modern Cider – Dry, Modern Cider – Sweet, Traditional Cider, Sour Cider, and several others.
Cider enthusiasts have the opportunity to taste these award-winning ciders at the Farm Show throughout the week. Cideries will be pouring samples at Booth 1101 in the Main Hall East, located by the Carousel. Pouring hours are from 10:00 to 21:00.
