Former Clemson University running back Keith Adams Jr. has announced his transfer to Georgia State University for the upcoming season. The decision comes as the transfer portal period approaches its conclusion, and Adams is among the last wave of players moving to new programs.
On Friday, Enrique Davis, the running backs coach at Georgia State, confirmed Adams’s commitment via social media. The former Clemson player saw action in each of his seasons with the Tigers but struggled to secure a prominent role in the team’s running back lineup. He concludes his time at Clemson with a total of 58 carries, 247 rushing yards, and two touchdowns, showcasing his potential during significant games, particularly in a victory against Boston College in October where he recorded 49 yards and a touchdown.
Adams’s Journey and Future Goals
Adams, who earned the nickname “Hammerhead” from the Clemson coaching staff for his physical running style, will have one year of eligibility remaining at Georgia State, which competes in the Group of 5 conferences. His father, Keith Adams Sr., played for the Tigers from 1998 to 2000, which influenced Adams Jr.’s initial decision to join Clemson.
Before choosing the Tigers, Adams Jr. had offers from schools such as Marshall, Army, and South Florida. He entered the transfer portal in early December, citing a desire for better utilization of his skills in a new environment. “I felt I was not used the right way,” Adams stated, expressing confidence that he could make a significant impact at Georgia State.
According to 247Sports, Adams is rated as a three-star prospect in the transfer portal, currently ranked 132nd among running backs. He aims to compete for a starting position with the Panthers, who finished last season with a challenging 1-11 record. The team will see competition for the running back role from players like Gideon Davidson and David Eziomume.
Clemson’s Future and Ongoing Transfers
As Adams transitions to Georgia State, the Clemson Tigers have made moves of their own, adding Chris Johnson Jr. through the transfer portal while also having returning players like Jay Haynes and Jarvis Green, who are expected to make significant contributions next season.
Adams’s move marks a crucial step in his athletic career, providing an opportunity to redefine his role and impact in college football.
