Blind Massage Therapist Launches Free Massage Giveaway for Parents

UPDATE: In a heartwarming initiative, Steven Stewart, a blind massage therapist, is offering free massages to single parents in Orland Park, Illinois. This compassionate giveaway, announced earlier today, aims to support those in need, particularly in light of recent economic challenges.

Stewart, who lost his sight eight years ago, opened Unsighted Massage in September 2025, located within Nicole Richards Hair Salon on 159th Street. He expressed a newfound happiness and purpose in his life, stating, “I’m in a better place now than I was back then — physically, emotionally, mentally.” His journey from a forklift driver to a massage therapist was fueled by his personal experiences, and now he seeks to uplift others.

In a bid to give back, Stewart is randomly selecting five single parents through social media entries for complimentary massages. This initiative is particularly poignant for Stewart, who credits his success to his mother’s unwavering support throughout his life. “A lot of my overhead is my time and my hands, and I don’t mind giving that to people,” he explained.

The urgency of this giveaway is underscored by recent reports indicating that as many as 2 million Illinoisans have lost their SNAP benefits due to a federal government shutdown. Moved by stories of families struggling to afford basic necessities, Stewart launched this program to provide relief.

Among those inspired by Stewart’s mission is Tracy Beagarie, who discovered him on social media and immediately booked a massage. After connecting with Stewart during her appointment, she decided to contribute charcuterie boards for the single parents receiving massages. “You don’t always need the recognition for doing nice things,” Beagarie stated, emphasizing the importance of kindness.

This initiative has already expanded beyond Stewart’s original plan, as the emotional stories shared by applicants have touched him deeply. “I had one client who broke down in tears just because of how bad she was struggling,” he shared. Stewart is adamant that only verified single parents should enter the current giveaway, ensuring that the support goes to those truly in need.

The community support extends to Mary Lynn Fleck, the owner of Nicole Richards Salon, who has become a client and advocate for Stewart. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Fleck has benefited from Stewart’s lymphatic drainage therapy, which she describes as life-changing during her treatment. “It was the best night’s sleep I got throughout my whole chemo treatment,” she noted.

Fleck recognizes Stewart’s dedication and impact, stating, “There are not many people who could have their sight taken away and turn around and give back as much as Steven has.” She believes his commitment to helping others while building his business represents the best of community spirit.

As Stewart continues his mission, he encourages those in need to participate in the massage giveaway, which serves as a beacon of hope during challenging times. “Whatever he wants, I fully support him,” Fleck affirmed.

This initiative not only highlights Stewart’s resilience but also serves as a reminder of the power of community and compassion. Stay tuned for updates on this inspiring story as more single parents benefit from Stewart’s generous offer.
