Drake has secured a crucial legal victory after photographer Gabriele Galimberti voluntarily dismissed a lawsuit alleging copyright infringement related to the artist’s music video “What Did I Miss?”. The lawsuit, filed in November 2023, claimed that an arrangement of guns in the video closely resembled imagery from Galimberti’s project titled “The Ameriguns.”
Galimberti’s complaint highlighted that the video, released in July 2023, had a scene around the 14-second mark that he argued directly infringed on his work. Furthermore, the lawsuit made a controversial connection between the allegations faced by both parties. Galimberti claimed that Drake attempted to draw parallels between their situations, as both artists have faced allegations of inappropriate behavior in recent years.
The allegations against Galimberti emerged from a Balenciaga advertisement he photographed, which featured children alongside teddy bears dressed in bondage attire. In parallel, rapper Kendrick Lamar previously accused Drake of similar misconduct during their public feud, further complicating the legal landscape.
In a recent update, AllHipHop reported that the lawsuit against Drake has been dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning that Galimberti is barred from refiling the complaint in the future. Additionally, the photographer will be responsible for covering his own legal fees associated with the case. As of now, it remains unclear if the parties reached a settlement prior to the dismissal, a possibility that may have influenced Galimberti’s decision.
This latest legal outcome coincides with the growing anticipation for Drake’s upcoming ninth studio album, titled ICEMAN. While there is no official release date confirmed, speculation suggests that the album may be released in the near future, further fueling excitement among fans.
Drake’s legal success highlights his ability to navigate complex legal situations while maintaining focus on his music career. As he prepares for the launch of ICEMAN, this victory adds to his resilience in the face of adversity.
