Durango Girls Lacrosse Dominates Santa Fe Prep 13-2 on Senior Night

Durango Girls Lacrosse Bounces Back With Crushing 13-2 Win Over Santa Fe Prep

The Durango High School girls lacrosse team delivered a commanding response to their biggest loss of the season with a decisive 13-2 victory over Santa Fe Prep on senior night Friday. The win boosts Durango to 8-3 overall while Santa Fe Prep falls to 0-2.

From the opening whistle, Durango seized control and never relinquished its lead. The Demons started explosively, scoring three goals within the first four minutes, showcasing relentless transition offense and aggressive, precision defense. Santa Fe Prep’s offense struggled to find rhythm throughout, hampered by disruptive stick checks and turnovers orchestrated by the Demons’ tenacious defense.

Head coach Eric Elliot praised the team’s performance and leadership, especially the senior class, saying,

“I think I’m undefeated on senior nights and so is the team, so that’s pretty good”

and emphasized the pivotal role of seniors on and off the field.

Key Players Lead Durango’s Dominance

Junior Indie Eaton spearheaded the offense, netting four goals and adding two assists. Freshman Janelle Dingler impressed with three goals and three assists, while senior Taylor Babcock contributed three goals and an assist in a performance that electrified the home crowd. Goalie Jody Holden cemented the win with six critical saves, shutting down multiple close-range attempts.

On defense, sophomore Keelyn Reynolds stood out, disrupting Santa Fe’s offense with a school-record 10 caused turnovers, snatching ground balls and creating transition opportunities that led directly to scoring chances. Coach Elliot highlighted her hockey-like anticipation, describing her defensive instincts as “setting up her defender to go by her” before jumping the passing lanes.

Demons Cruise to Victory Despite Some Missed Shots

Durango built a commanding 7-goal lead by halftime and continued to dominate possession in the second half. Although the pace dipped somewhat after their early frenzy, the Demons maintained control throughout, preventing Santa Fe from mounting any sustained offense. Durango’s offense could have extended the lead further but missed several easy opportunities, leading to a final scoreline of 13-2.

The senior class—consisting of Babcock, Scarlett Ramsey, and Laurel Dondlinger—were celebrated in a heartfelt ceremony postgame, with Ramsey scoring her second goal of the season in the final quarter. Coach Elliot praised their leadership, crediting them for helping integrate 10 new players on the roster and setting the tone for team success this season.

Next Up for Durango: Key Home Match Against Telluride
