Urgent: No Kings Protests Planned Across Bay Area Today

UPDATE: Millions of Americans are set to rally today for the No Kings Day protests across the Bay Area and nationwide, as tensions rise over President Donald Trump‘s controversial plans to deploy the National Guard to San Francisco. These demonstrations are expected to draw thousands in a peaceful stand against the White House’s actions.

The protests begin in San Francisco and span numerous locations across the Bay Area. This urgent display of dissent comes in response to Trump’s recent remarks about federal troop deployment in cities facing unrest. California Governor Gavin Newsom has condemned this move, arguing it constitutes an illegal use of force. Speaking at a press conference, Newsom stated,

“His latest assertion that he was going to come to San Francisco… it is grossly illegal. It’s immoral.”

With the potential for confrontation looming, the San Francisco Police Department has assured citizens of their commitment to facilitating peaceful protests while remaining prepared for any incidents. Past No Kings gatherings have attracted significant participation, with organizers anticipating a similar turnout today.

Republican leaders have criticized the protests as un-American, with House Speaker Mike Johnson labeling them a “hate America rally.” Nevertheless, organizers, including Dianne McClure of National Nurses United, emphasize their aim is to advocate for a nation free from the influence of billionaires and corporate interests. McClure expressed,

“To threaten sending in the National Guard… means that we’re effective in our organizing.”

As part of the planned protests, major street closures will occur in downtown San Francisco. From 1:15 to 2:00 PM, sections of Market Street and connected routes will be blocked to facilitate the demonstrations. Additional closures will be in effect from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

In other states, including Texas, the National Guard will also be deployed during protests, signaling a nationwide wave of unrest. The No Kings movement encourages citizens to join their local rallies, with schedules available on their official website.

As the situation develops, this protest marks a significant moment in the ongoing tensions between state and federal powers, highlighting the urgent need for citizens to voice their concerns.
