Tabb Field Hockey Streaks Toward Championship, No Goals Allowed Since August

UPDATE: Tabb High School’s field hockey team is on a historic run, having not allowed a single goal since August. As they aim for their fifth consecutive Virginia High School League Class 3 championship, the Tigers stand unmatched with a perfect record of 15-0.

The Tigers’ latest triumph was a 2-1 victory over Colonial Forge, which marked the last time an opponent found the back of their net. Tabb has consistently dominated the field, earning the top spot in the 757Teamz Top 15 rankings and securing a place in the Max Field Hockey National Top 25.

As they prepare to close out their regular season against Nansemond River at 6 p.m. Thursday, all eyes are on Tabb to see if they can extend their remarkable streak.

In other notable performances, Caitlin Outlaw shined for the defending VHSL Class 5 title-holders, the Warriors, scoring five goals in two victories, including a crushing 7-1 win over Grafton.

Norfolk Academy also saw strong performances from Anja Speers, who netted two goals in wins against Cape Henry Collegiate and Walsingham Academy. The Bulldogs will host First Colonial at 4 p.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, Great Bridge’s Leah Orrock scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory over Maury, with Brooke Fierst achieving her second shutout of the week, as the Wildcats topped Grassfield 4-0. Great Bridge is set to face Kellam at 6 p.m. Monday and Indian River on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to potentially complete an unbeaten Southeastern District run.

Hickory’s Laila Manipon scored the game-winning goal in a thrilling 3-2 win over Catholic, while freshman Abby Cullen starred by scoring four goals in a victory over Oscar Smith. Hickory’s next challenge is against Western Branch at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In a high-scoring affair, Maddie Viola recorded a hat trick for Western Branch in a 4-1 victory over Lakeland. Cox’s Mikaela Quinn scored twice in a dominant 4-0 win against Chancellor, while Bella Glenn contributed significantly with a goal and an assist, along with impressive outings against Salem and Tallwood.

Poquoson edged out Jamestown 4-3, supported by Casey Law and Elizabeth Trant, each with a goal and an assist. Ashley Groseth delivered an explosive performance, scoring a hat trick in a 9-1 blowout against Smithfield. The Islanders will travel to face York at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In a nail-biting match, Lexi Anderson scored the double-overtime clincher in York’s 1-0 victory over Prince George. Anderson also showcased her scoring capability with three goals and an assist in a 6-0 rout over Bruton.

Other standout performances this week include Danica Carter’s hat trick for Oscar Smith in a 6-0 win over Manor, and Camille Lebel’s single-game career-high of three goals and two assists for Cape Henry Collegiate in a 7-0 victory against Hampton Roads Academy. Kiyah Hill tallied both goals for Smithfield in a 2-0 win over Deep Creek, raising her season total to 15.

As the season progresses, fans and teams alike are eagerly anticipating the playoff matchups and whether Tabb can continue their stunning defensive streak.
