URGENT UPDATE: A new Kung Fu Tea location is set to open in Redwood City, thanks to local dad Drew Shih, who sought to satisfy his family’s cravings for boba tea without long drives. The soft opening is scheduled for October 27, with a grand opening to follow on November 15.
Drew Shih, a father of four daughters aged 11 to 19, grew tired of the daily trek to San Mateo and across Redwood City to fulfill their diverse boba preferences. “Why isn’t there a shop closer to home?” he wondered, spurring him to take action. He, along with his family, began researching various boba franchises, ultimately choosing Kung Fu Tea for its authentic Taiwanese offerings.
The family is determined to bring the taste of Taiwan to their community, aiming to appeal to both dedicated boba enthusiasts and newcomers alike. “It became sort of an obsession,” Shih stated, reflecting on their journey to open the new location.
Kung Fu Tea boasts an extensive menu featuring around 70 drinks, including slushies, espresso beverages, and fruity teas. Unique options will include honey oolong milk tea, rose hip lemonade, and taro slushies—each personally vetted by Shih’s daughters, who are set to work at the shop.
Currently, the only nearby Kung Fu Tea location is in San Jose, making this Redwood City opening a significant addition to the area. The family plans to create a welcoming environment for both boba lovers and those new to the trend.
