McDowell Academy Student Completes NC Governor’s Page Program

A student from the McDowell Academy for Innovation has successfully completed the prestigious North Carolina Governor’s Page Program, showcasing her commitment to civic engagement and leadership. Ashley, who participated in the program, had the opportunity to work closely with state officials and gain valuable insights into the workings of local government.

The Governor’s Page Program, designed for students aged 15 to 18, allows participants to serve as pages in the North Carolina General Assembly. During her time in the program, Ashley learned about legislative processes, participated in discussions, and even attended sessions where significant decisions impacting the state were made.

This experience not only enriched Ashley’s understanding of government but also highlighted the importance of active participation in civic duties. In a statement, the school expressed its pride in Ashley’s achievement, stating, “We are incredibly proud of Ashley’s dedication and commitment to civic engagement.”

The program is known for fostering leadership qualities among young individuals. Pages assist state representatives, providing them with crucial support during legislative sessions. They gain firsthand experience in how laws are created and the impact these laws have on their communities.

Governor Roy Cooper emphasized the value of such programs in inspiring the next generation of leaders. “The Governor’s Page Program is a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with government and understand the importance of their voice,” he remarked.

As Ashley returns to her studies at McDowell Academy, her experience is expected to inspire her peers to explore similar opportunities. The academy continues to encourage its students to engage with their communities and develop their skills in leadership and civic responsibility.

Participation in programs like this not only enhances educational experiences but also equips young people with the tools necessary for effective citizenship. As Ashley exemplifies, such initiatives can shape the future leaders of North Carolina and beyond.
