Skoda Revives Rare 1000 MBX with Futuristic Design Concept

BREAKING: Skoda’s design team has just unveiled a stunning reimagining of the iconic 1000 MBX, bringing a blast from the past into the present with a modern twist. This conceptual model showcases Skoda’s innovative “Modern Solid” design language, blending nostalgia with futuristic elements.

Developed in just four weeks, the digital concept pays homage to one of the rarest vehicles ever made by the Czech automaker, with only 1,403 units of the original 1000 MBX produced between 1966 and 1969. The even rarer 1100 MBX variant saw just 1,114 examples made, making this revival all the more significant.

The updated design features a boxy coupe style, reminiscent of the original, but elevates it with modern enhancements, including rear-hinged doors similar to the Mazda RX-8. Skoda’s Antti Savio led the exterior design, while David Stingl focused on the cabin, creating an interior that boasts high-end features not found in any existing Skoda model.

This electrifying concept, part of the brand’s “Icons Get a Makeover” series, emphasizes Skoda’s commitment to innovation while remaining purely a creative exercise—there are no plans for production. The concept showcases advanced features like a height-adjustable air suspension, setting it apart from traditional vehicles.

The compact coupe, roughly the size of the last Audi TT, not only draws inspiration from its predecessor but also shares stylistic similarities with other retro-futuristic designs, including the Nissan IDx. The design team has crafted an unusual glass-covered oval dashboard, adding to the vehicle’s futuristic appeal.

While the Vision O, another concept featuring the Modern Solid design, is expected to evolve into a production vehicle, the 1000 MBX remains a fascinating side project. This unique approach to design serves as an exciting reminder of Skoda’s rich heritage and its forward-thinking vision.

As automotive enthusiasts eagerly share this news, Skoda continues to inspire with its blend of history and innovation, igniting curiosity about what the future may hold for the brand. Stay tuned for more updates on Skoda’s design explorations and their potential impact on the automotive landscape.
