At the 2025 Mid-America Emmy Awards held in St. Charles, Missouri, KNWA’s Doug Warner and Dan Skoff achieved notable recognition by winning two prestigious awards. This success highlights the station’s commitment to quality journalism and impactful storytelling.
Recognition for Excellence in Journalism
KNWA garnered a total of 13 nominations across various categories at the 49th Emmy Awards. The awards ceremony showcased the station’s dedication to high standards in news reporting and production. Doug Warner won in the “Religion – News” category for his segment titled “The Good Stuff: Lifting Up Greenwood.” Meanwhile, Dan Skoff received the award for “Weathercast” for his coverage of the Rogers Tornado that was captured on camera on November 4, 2024.
Warner expressed pride in his team’s accomplishments, stating, “Win or lose, a news team with 13 Emmy nominations is an indication from our peers that KNWA has really stepped up its newsgathering and journalistic standards. I’m proud to be a part of this newsroom, every person in it, and what we are doing.”
His award-winning piece, “Lifting Up Greenwood,” tells the inspiring story of a young cross-country runner named Kaylee from Batesville. In a moment of selflessness during her last high school race, Kaylee chose to help a fellow runner from Greenwood who had collapsed just before the finish line. Warner noted, “In her heart, she knew Jesus would never just run past someone like that. So, she wasn’t about to do the same, even if it cost her valuable time.”
Gratitude and Humility
Dan Skoff also shared his feelings of gratitude after receiving his Emmy. In a Facebook post, he commented on being “humbled and deeply honored” to win the award for best weathercast. His work has resonated with viewers, emphasizing the significant role of weather coverage in local news.
