15-Year-Old Bentley Lane Harvests 233-Pound Buck, Makes History

URGENT UPDATE: Fifteen-year-old Bentley Lane from Hartland achieved a remarkable feat Saturday morning, harvesting a massive 233-pound, 8-point buck while hunting with his father, Ray Lane. The hunt took place on family property just after sunrise, marking a significant moment in a long-standing family tradition.

As dawn broke, Bentley and Ray spotted the deer on the southeast side of the field. Utilizing a Browning A-Bolt .30-06 rifle that belonged to Bentley’s grandfather, Lewis Elliot, the young hunter demonstrated skill and patience. After using two grunt calls to halt the buck, Bentley fired two shots as the deer bounded toward the woods. Just 25 yards from the field’s edge, they located the deer, sealing a memorable hunting experience.

Ray Lane praised his son’s composure: “He was patient, calm, and confident. That’s what hunting’s all about—family, tradition, and spending time together outdoors.” This sentiment encapsulates the emotional weight of the day, as Bentley not only bagged a noteworthy buck but also honored his family’s hunting legacy.

After the successful harvest, Bentley celebrated with his mother, Gretchen Lane, and a family friend. They played their traditional “guess the weight” game, which concluded with the buck’s weight confirmed at Newport Trading Post. This triumph marks Bentley’s eighth deer, making it one of his largest catches to date.

The day didn’t end with the hunt. Later, Bentley showcased his athletic prowess on the sports field, contributing to Nokomis’ victory over Medomak Valley as a starter on the front line.

This story isn’t just about a successful hunt; it’s about family bonding, honoring tradition, and creating lasting memories. As Bentley Lane continues his journey in both hunting and sports, the community stands proud of this young hunter and the legacy he is building.
