BREAKING NEWS: Walter Bernard Ament, a beloved father and community figure, passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of 93. Surrounded by family in his daughter’s home, Ament leaves behind a legacy of love and a lifetime of extraordinary achievements.
Born on June 5, 1932, in Bluffton, MN, Ament was more than just a farmer—he was a miner, logger, fisherman, gardener, refrigeration expert, and even a cowboy. His diverse talents reflected a life dedicated to hard work and family. Ament’s greatest joy came from his role as a father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
In a heartfelt union, Ament married his pen pal and best friend, Dorothy Blotti, on January 21, 1956, in Morgan Park, MN. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, and his storytelling and mentorship touched countless lives.
Ament is remembered not just for his skills but also for his character. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; eight siblings; and his daughter, Judith Anne. He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Otto; daughters Pamella (Dan) Wallgren and Mary (Mike) Johnson; and granddaughters Emily (Clayton Gries) Wallgren, Kate Johnson, and Anna Johnson. His family thanks the compassionate staff from Essentia Health and the Care Planning Institute for their support during this difficult time.
Visitation will take place on November 7, 2025, from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 2410 Morris Thomas Road. Fr. Anthony Craig will officiate the service, followed by burial at Oneota Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, Ament requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.
Ament’s life serves as a poignant reminder of love, dedication, and the impact one individual can have on their community. His family invites everyone to join them in honoring his remarkable journey and legacy.
