UPDATE: Arden Walker, senior defensive end for the CU Buffs, is focused on securing a bowl game as the season reaches a critical juncture. With a 5 p.m. kickoff against Arizona on October 21, 2023, Walker emphasizes the urgency for his team to rebound from a humiliating 53-7 loss at Utah.
“We’ve got to get to six wins, really,” said Walker, a Cherry Creek High School graduate. “That’s the bowl eligibility number, so that’s what I’ve been preaching to a lot of guys in the locker room.” The Buffs, currently sitting at 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12, face a must-win scenario to keep their postseason hopes alive.
After a disappointing performance last week, Walker is rallying his teammates. “We didn’t do what we were supposed to, clearly by the score and how we played. It’s a new week, so throw it out the trash and get ready for this weekend,” he urged.
Prior to the setback against Utah, the Buffs achieved an impressive upset over then-No. 22 Iowa State on October 11, winning 24-17. They also suffered narrow defeats to top-10 teams like No. 7 Georgia Tech and No. 10 BYU. This gives fans hope that the team can turn its fortunes around.
Walker, who is eyeing the 2026 NFL Draft, knows that his success is intertwined with the team’s performance. “I want to make the most of my situation, if anything, because the unknown is coming up pretty soon,” he said. He is determined to boost both his draft stock and the Buffs’ chances for a bowl.
As a key player for the Buffs, Walker has recorded 32 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks this season. However, he acknowledges the need for increased production. “The production side, I got to continue just to keep stepping up,” he stated.
Head coach Deion Sanders has urged his players that consistent wins lead to greater exposure and opportunities in the NFL. Walker is aware that making impactful plays will be critical in his last games with the Buffs.
With only a few games left in his college career, Walker is motivated to help his team achieve success. “If I do my part and make sure that we get the wins that we need to, I feel like it’s completely where I need to be,” he concluded.
The upcoming match against Arizona is pivotal for both Walker and the Buffs. Fans are eager to see if they can bounce back and keep their bowl aspirations alive this Saturday at Folsom Field.
