URGENT UPDATE: The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has confirmed that the road through the Roseau Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will remain closed during the upcoming firearms deer season, which opens on Saturday, November 8, 2025. This critical closure affects the “lake bottom” road, significantly impacting hunters in Deer Permit Area (DPA) 267.
The closure on 360th Avenue extends through portions of Unorganized Township sections 17, 20, and 29, starting just a quarter-mile north of the Stoie Bridge, which crosses the Roseau River. Hunters must plan alternative routes as the road will be inaccessible for the entirety of the nine-day firearms deer season.
This road closure is part of the ongoing Roseau Lake Rehabilitation Project, a collaborative effort between the Minnesota DNR and the Roseau River Watershed District. The project aims to restore the 3,000-acre Roseau Lake within the WMA, mitigate flood risks to private lands, and prevent overtopping of 360th Avenue during high water events.
The DNR emphasizes the importance of this construction for both environmental restoration and public safety. Updates regarding the project and road status can be accessed on the DNR’s Roseau Lake WMA webpage or by contacting the Roseau River WMA office at (218) 452-7610.
Hunters and local residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and share this information to ensure safe and responsible hunting practices during this deer season. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
