Al LaFleur Joins Kim Magnusson’s Short Film ‘Fire Lily’

Al LaFleur has been cast in the leading role of Kim Magnusson’s upcoming short film, Fire Lily. The project is produced by Magnusson, a two-time Academy Award winner, alongside British music artist and judge on Britain’s Got Talent, Alesha Dixon. Others involved in the production include actor-producer Theresa Godly from Bridgerton and Law & Order, as well as Joyce Allen from Women in Film & Television Ohio.

Magnusson is renowned for his Academy Award-winning shorts, such as Election Night (1998) and Helium (2013). The latest project, written and directed by Phil Dunn, tells the story of a dancer who is wrongfully detained by a police officer. As the narrative unfolds, it evolves into “a surreal epiphany of poetry, music, and dance, forcing them to confront their shared humanity and the unseen forces that shape them.”

Filming and Future Prospects

Filming for Fire Lily is scheduled to begin shortly in Cleveland, Ohio. The team has set its sights on premiering the film at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, with plans to enter it into both the Academy Awards and BAFTA competitions.

LaFleur, an emerging talent based in Los Angeles, has previously appeared in projects such as Speakeasy, Wild West Chronicles, and The Night Passenger. On stage, he recently completed a sold-out run in Hollywood alongside Alretha Thomas from This Is Us in the production A Girl’s Guilt Trip.

Excitement and Expectations

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, LaFleur stated, “This is a dream come true. Fire Lily is timely and stunningly unique. I’m ecstatic to be part of this project and the world-class team bringing it to life so close to my hometown.”

Dunn praised LaFleur’s abilities, noting, “Al’s talent and screen presence blew the team away; I could see immediately why he is a rising star. I am so thrilled to have him join the family and I’m looking forward to working closely with him as we bring Fire Lily to life.”

The collaboration promises to showcase a compelling exploration of themes that resonate deeply, making Fire Lily a film to watch as it moves towards its anticipated release.
