Blaze at Maine Sawmill Causes Extensive Damage, No Injuries Reported

URGENT UPDATE: A significant fire at the Irving Forest Products sawmill in Dixfield, Maine, erupted on Saturday, causing extensive damage to a portion of the building, according to the Dixfield Fire Company. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

The fire was primarily contained to the northwest side of the sawmill, as firefighters from multiple surrounding towns, including Rumford, Peru, Mexico, East Dixfield, Jay, Wilton, Canton, Roxbury, and Carthage, joined forces to combat the blaze.

The fire company stated, “The damage is extensive but contained,” and confirmed that mill personnel are actively assessing the situation and planning repairs. The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Irving Forest Products, which acquired the Dixfield sawmill in 1998, has invested over $40 million into the facility, emphasizing its importance to the local economy.
