A recent vacancy on the Flushing City Council has been filled by former councilwoman Brooke Good, who was appointed on November 10, 2023. Good steps into the role following the resignation of Nick Reitano, who stepped down on October 27, 2023, citing personal matters.
In a statement posted on November 11 via Facebook, Flushing Mayor Ed Sullivan confirmed that there were five applicants for the vacant seat, all of whom were highly qualified. The newly appointed member will serve a term that concludes in November 2026.
Good has experience in local governance, having previously been elected to the Flushing City Council in November 2019. Her return to the council comes at a time when leadership continuity is vital for the community.
Reitano’s resignation letter expressed gratitude for his time on the council. He noted that serving on the Flushing City Council had been “one of the greatest honors” of his life and thanked the city manager and his fellow council members for their dedication to the community.
Reitano was elected during a special election in November 2024 to complete the term of late Councilman Dan Fralick, who passed away on November 9, 2022. Fralick had been elected in November 2021 for a term set to end in November 2026. Following Fralick’s passing, David Lewicki was appointed to fill the seat until the next general election; however, Lewicki opted not to run in the upcoming November 2024 elections, allowing Reitano to secure the position.
With Good’s appointment, the Flushing City Council aims to maintain stability and effective governance as it continues to address the needs of the community. Her previous experience on the council may provide valuable insights as the body navigates future challenges and opportunities.
