Mildred Dolores Louise Danko, a long-time resident of Republic, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 89. She was the daughter of the late George and Suzanne Sheba Danko, and her family includes several close relatives and friends who will remember her fondly.
Mildred’s legacy is marked by her dedication to family and community. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Albert “Junior” Danko, as well as an infant brother and sister. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eloise Danko of Ravenswood, West Virginia, along with numerous nephews and nieces, including Roy David of Ravenswood, Edward Michael of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Georgianne Long of Ravenswood. Her family also includes many great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends who cherished her.
A Life of Service and Accomplishments
A 1954 graduate of Redstone High School, Mildred devoted over 40 years of her life to the Penn State Cooperative Extension as the secretary and office manager, retiring in 1996. She was known for her contributions to the community, notably as a member of the Holy Rosary Church in Republic. Her involvement extended to serving on the Pastoral Council and the Cemetery Committee, where she played a vital role in church activities.
Mildred was a trailblazer, becoming the first female elected to the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Agricultural Improvement Association. She also held the position of treasurer for the association, reflecting her commitment to local agricultural initiatives. In addition to her community service, she was a licensed cosmetologist and an active member of the Ladies Club of Tower Hill #2.
The family expressed their gratitude to the staff, nurses, and aides at Monarch Meadow and OSPTA for their compassionate care during Mildred’s later years. Their support provided comfort to both Mildred and her family.
Funeral Arrangements
Funeral arrangements are being managed privately by SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME in Brownsville. Mildred will be laid to rest at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Republic, a place that holds significance for many in the community.
