UPDATE: Dr. Peter Sheckman has been appointed as the new chair of the Board of Directors for Bridgewell, a pivotal nonprofit organization in northeastern Massachusetts, effective immediately. This leadership change comes as Bridgewell continues its mission to empower individuals facing disabilities and life challenges.
SWAMPSCOTT — Dr. Sheckman, a respected figure in the medical community, previously practiced internal medicine and infectious disease for over four decades. He recently retired from the North Shore Physicians Group, now integrated into Mass General Brigham, where he held the role of partner and medical director for 25 years. His extensive experience includes serving as the hospital epidemiologist at both Lynn and Union Hospitals.
Jane Puffer, a seasoned marketing executive from Acton, has also been elected vice chair of the board. Puffer, who brings over 40 years of marketing expertise, has been a vital member of Bridgewell’s board for more than 14 years and is known for her commitment to the organization’s mission.
In a statement reflecting on his new role, Dr. Sheckman expressed his admiration for Bridgewell’s leadership, stating, “What a revelation it has been for me to watch the growth and development of the organization through incredible leadership and mission-driven work.” He added, “I have wanted to stay involved all these years, and now, as board chair, I look forward to furthering our mission.”
Puffer echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of Bridgewell’s work in the community: “It is an honor to be elected as vice chair of the Bridgewell board. For many years, I have been involved with the organization because of its mission to serve the community through empowering people with disabilities and other life challenges to live their best lives.”
Bridgewell President and CEO Chris Tuttle praised both leaders, noting their invaluable contributions to the organization’s growth and stability. “Their combined oversight and deep understanding of our organization and the needs of the individuals we serve will be invaluable as chair and vice chair,” Tuttle stated.
Founded to strengthen communities, Bridgewell serves approximately 7,200 individuals and their families through various services, including community housing, outpatient treatment, recovery services, and employment training. The organization employs over 1,200 professionals, ensuring comprehensive support to those in need.
