UPDATE: Hundreds of Mobile County students are gaining invaluable insights today at the 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile’s Project Mentor Male Summit, held at Bishop State. This empowering event is designed to inspire young men and equip them with essential skills for effective communication and future success.
Participants, primarily middle and high school students, are engaging with community leaders in dynamic panel discussions that highlight personal success stories and the lessons learned along the way. “Outcomes on this means these guys will be more productive,” said Juan Peasant, President of 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile. “They’re learning how to really get their skills at a level where they can start their careers early.”
The summit, taking place today, has already seen active participation, with students asking questions and building confidence. “It’s very helpful because not a lot of children or young African American males have role models,” noted Bryce Bason, a sophomore at Vigor High School. “Just being able to come together at this event is helpful to a lot of kids.”
Tony Davis, owner of Secret Scientist, shared his journey, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness. “My pride got in the way, and it felt good getting this attention, but it was the wrong type of attention. Sometimes you’ve got to get out of your own way,” he advised.
The impact of the summit is palpable, as students express newfound perspectives and connections that will benefit their futures. Ve’Mari Chambers-York, a senior at Theodore High School, reflected on the importance of guidance from local leaders. “It was vital for me to hear advice from Mr. Councilman Cory because I plan to go into politics myself,” he said. “Don’t be afraid to be who you are; whatever you want to do, push it and do it full force.”
This crucial event not only addresses the educational needs of these young men but also serves as a vital networking opportunity. The Project Mentor Male Summit is set to continue to inspire and empower, demonstrating the commitment of 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile to foster positive outcomes in the community.
As the summit unfolds, stay tuned for more updates on how these inspiring discussions are shaping the futures of Mobile County’s youth. This event is just one of many initiatives aimed at uplifting the next generation of leaders.
