Community Thanksgiving Service Set for Nov. 23 in Havertown

URGENT UPDATE: A vital Community Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for November 23, 2025, at 3 p.m. at St. James UCC, located at 135 Myrtle Ave., Havertown. Organized by the Haverford Township Ministerium, this interfaith gathering is themed “United in Gratitude,” inviting all community members to join in a spirit of thankfulness.

This event is particularly significant as it will feature a special message from Barbara Lee and Barry Lee from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania. The offering collected during the service will support educational scholarships for members of the Lenape community, highlighting the importance of cultural recognition during this Thanksgiving season.

For those interested in participating musically, a community choir rehearsal will take place at 2:15 p.m. just before the service. Interested singers should contact the church office to join the choir, conducted by Georgia Marshall Schrom.

In addition to this special service, several local churches are gearing up for various Thanksgiving and Advent events. For example, Trainer Trinity United Methodist Church will hold its regular worship on November 23, led by Pastor Hilda Campbell, starting at 10:15 a.m.

Throughout the month, many churches in the area are offering community-focused events. Notably, Havertown United Methodist Church will host a special presentation by members of the Lenape Nation on November 30, coinciding with Native American History Month. This event will celebrate cultural heritage through music and storytelling.

As the holiday season approaches, churches are also preparing for their Christmas services, with special cantatas, children’s parties, and communal meals planned across the region. Keeping the community engaged, St. Matthew Lutheran Church will kick off its Advent luncheons on December 4, featuring “The Voices of Advent.”

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this is a crucial time for community building and reflection. Residents are encouraged to participate in these events to foster connections and show gratitude during this festive season.
