St. Joseph Community Chorus Unveils Exciting December Holiday Performances

The St. Joseph Community Chorus has announced a vibrant lineup of holiday performances this December, inviting community members to participate and enjoy timeless seasonal classics. Two major events will take place, showcasing a variety of musical talents, ranging from an ensemble of handbells to skilled vocal soloists.

Engage in the “Messiah Sing-A-Long”

On December 13, 2024, at 3 p.m., the First Presbyterian Church will host the “Messiah Sing-A-Long.” This free event allows participants to join in singing uplifting choruses from George Frideric Handel’s renowned oratorio, “Messiah.” Under the direction of Dr. Timothy Tharaldson and assisted by Dr. Ruth Krusemark, attendees will perform the Christmas portion of the piece, accompanied by organ music and soloists from the St. Joseph Community Chorus.

Singers are encouraged to bring their own scores; however, copies will be provided for those who do not have one. While admission is free, donations are welcomed to support future performances.

Experience “Christmas at the Cathedral”

Following the sing-along, the St. Joseph Community Chorus will present its cherished holiday tradition, “Christmas at the Cathedral,” on December 21, 2024, at 3 p.m., and again on December 22, 2024, at 7 p.m.. These performances will take place at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 519 N. 10th St.

This year, the chorus will collaborate with the acclaimed handbell ensemble, Rezound!, known as Kansas City’s premier auditioned group. Comprising 15 skilled ringers, Rezound! will perform on an impressive range of instruments, including 6.5 octaves of Schulmerich handbells, 6 octaves of Malmark choir chimes, and 4.5 octaves of Whitechapel bells.

Together, the St. Joseph Community Chorus and Rezound! will deliver three remarkable pieces: “Creation Will Be at Peace” by Anna Laura Page, “Christmas Is Coming” by Joel Raney, and “Ring Out Ye Bells” by Marques L.A. Garrett, Samuel Carlton, and Dan Forrest.

Tickets for “Christmas at the Cathedral” are priced at $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and are free for students.
