Renowned Architect Andre Ballard Passes Away at 63

Andre Lee Ballard, a distinguished architect known for his innovative contributions to major building projects worldwide, died at home in London on October 27, 2025. He was 63 years old and had been courageously battling pancreatic cancer for the past year.

Born on October 31, 1961, in Montreal and raised in Suffolk, Virginia, Ballard pursued his passion for architecture at the University of Virginia. After completing his studies, he married Mary Ellen Vance, and together they embarked on a life filled with exploration and adventure. The couple lived in various cities, including Norfolk, London, and Hong Kong, where they began their family and forged lasting friendships.

Throughout his career, Ballard made significant contributions to architectural projects across various regions, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, and Saudi Arabia. He took particular pride in his work on Zaha Hadid’s City of Dreams in Macau, a project that showcased his creativity and expertise.

A voracious reader, Ballard had a keen interest in history, science, and culture, often sharing thoughtful insights with friends and family. His irreverent wit and broad intelligence made him a beloved figure among his peers. He was known for his easygoing nature, which endeared him to those who knew him.

Ballard is survived by his wife, Mary, and their three cherished children: Jason, Lauren, and Sophia.

A funeral service will be held in London on November 21, 2025. Following this, a memorial gathering will take place at the family’s U.S. home located at 2709 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, North Carolina, on December 6, 2025, starting at 18:00. Friends and family are invited to share stories, raise toasts, and scatter Ballard’s ashes in the ocean he loved.

Ballard’s legacy will live on through his family and the remarkable projects he contributed to throughout his career. His adventurous spirit and passion for architecture will be deeply missed.
