Coon Rapids City Hall Launches Urgent ‘Season of Giving’ Drive

UPDATE: Coon Rapids City Hall has officially launched its urgent ‘Season of Giving’ donation drive, inviting residents to contribute to local charities and directly support families in need this holiday season. The drive kicks off on November 24 and runs through December 15, with donations accepted from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 11155 Robinson Drive.

This initiative is more critical than ever as local charities gear up to meet the heightened demand for assistance during the holidays. Residents can drop off donations in collection bins located in the front lobby of City Hall. Each donation will alleviate the struggles faced by families in the community, making the holidays a little brighter.

Key items needed include non-perishable food items like canned goods and whole grains, new and unwrapped toys for children of all ages, winter coats, and personal care toiletries. Specific charities have highlighted their most pressing needs. For example, the ACBC Food Shelf is urgently requesting high-need items such as flour, oil, and baby food.

The Toys for Joy program is focusing on new, unwrapped toys, particularly for older children aged 12-18, including electronics and gift cards. Additionally, Alexandra House is seeking new or gently used winter coats and children’s boots, while Granny’s Closet has put out a call for household and personal care items, including men’s razors and laundry detergent.

Beyond City Hall, donations can also be made at several other locations including the Coon Rapids Ice Center, Bunker Hills Golf Club, and all Coon Rapids Fire Stations. Each site will accept toys and food, expanding the reach of this essential drive.

Why This Matters NOW: With the holiday season fast approaching, the act of giving becomes a powerful way to strengthen community bonds. These donations not only provide immediate relief but also support everyday necessities often taken for granted. The City of Coon Rapids encourages residents to contribute and help cultivate a spirit of generosity in our community.
