UPDATE: Sacramento is making significant strides in addressing homelessness, as highlighted in the latest report from the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT). Between November 10-16, the city managed an impressive 2,096 cases related to unsheltered individuals, reflecting urgent community needs.
The city received 544 calls to its 311 customer service line during this period. Notably, the number of cases managed exceeds the call volume, indicating that multiple issues can arise from a single call, according to the Sacramento City Express. This uptick in activity underscores the critical situation facing Sacramento’s homeless population.
In a positive turn, outreach staff successfully enrolled 74 individuals into databases connecting them with local shelters and essential resources. Additionally, 17 people were placed in housing at the City’s Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC) during this week.
However, challenges remain. Currently, there are zero Pallet homes and zero trailers available at the Roseville Road campus, with only two spaces at the OEC and an average of 13 openings at City-funded shelters. This stark reality highlights the ongoing struggle to provide sufficient housing for those in need.
Moreover, the IMT has taken active measures to tackle the visible impact of homelessness in the city. During the past week, the team conducted waste removal efforts that resulted in the disposal of a staggering 50,140 pounds of trash, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer community.
Transparency remains a priority for city officials. Sacramento has launched a data dashboard that allows the public to track weekly progress on homelessness management since September 2023. This resource provides cumulative figures on outreach, compliance, and cleanup efforts, ensuring residents are informed about the city’s ongoing initiatives.
As Sacramento continues to navigate this pressing issue, community members are urged to stay engaged and informed about the evolving situation. The IMT is dedicated to addressing homelessness with urgency, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for more updates as Sacramento works toward solutions that can make a lasting impact on the community.
