Colfax-Mingo Girls Basketball Triumphs Over Southeast Warren, 37-30

The Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team opened their season with a hard-fought victory over Southeast Warren, winning 37-30 on the road on November 3, 2023. After trailing at halftime, the Tigerhawks executed a remarkable comeback, outscoring their opponents 18-2 in the third quarter, which proved decisive in securing the win.

Despite struggling offensively, shooting just 28.8 percent from the field, Colfax-Mingo capitalized on Southeast Warren’s challenges. The Warhawks, who were unable to make a single shot from three-point range, finishing 0-of-10, also missed crucial free throws, going 4-of-11 from the line. Southeast Warren initially led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and held a seven-point lead at halftime, but their inability to maintain momentum allowed Colfax-Mingo to take charge in the second half.

Blain Houseman emerged as a key player for the Tigerhawks, leading the team with nine points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He received support from Isabelle Foglesong, who contributed 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Other notable performances included Lydia Hansen, who added nine points and five rebounds, and Mallory Sipma, who recorded six points and six rebounds.

Colfax-Mingo’s defense was a standout feature of the game. The team managed to secure 12 steals and forced Southeast Warren into committing 25 turnovers. Although the Tigerhawks also faced challenges with their ball control, recording 18 turnovers themselves, their defensive efforts were instrumental in turning the game in their favor.

Southeast Warren, now 0-1 for the season, saw Madison Olsasky lead their performance with nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Jessica Lillig contributed 10 points and four rebounds. The Warhawks will look to regroup and improve in their upcoming games after a disappointing opening match.

This victory marks a promising start for Colfax-Mingo, who faced a narrow defeat against Southeast Warren last season, losing by just three points. The Tigerhawks aim to build on this momentum as they continue their season.
