Early Life and Family
Born on September 12, 1952, in San Pedro, California, Janie graduated from San Pedro High School in 1970. Shortly after, she married and began her family, creating a home filled with love and laughter. Her dedication to her family was evident in everything she did, and her greatest joy came from caring for her loved ones.
Janie’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family. She had a profound connection to nature, taking the time each day to feed the squirrels and birds that frequented her backyard. This passion for wildlife was something she passed on to her daughters, instilling in them a respect for all living creatures. Her dog, Willie, and cat, Quinn, were her constant companions, further showcasing her compassionate nature.
Legacy and Remembrance
Janie is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Johnny, and her first husband. She is survived by her loving husband, Phil Max Thetford; her three daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Wiley, Jodi Beth Gilbert, and Missy Jean Wilson; and her cherished grandson, Stephen Wiley Wilson, who was the apple of her eye.
Her legacy is defined by kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. Those who were fortunate enough to know Janie carry her spirit with them through the love she shared and the lessons she imparted. Her gentle presence and unwavering strength have left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
A service honoring Janie’s life is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, at 2:00 PM at Green Hills in San Pedro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the San Pedro Animal Shelter, a cause that was particularly close to Janie’s heart.
