Logan Heights Community Launches Holiday Toy Drive for Local Kids

The nonprofit organization, Logan Heights Community Development Corporation, has initiated its annual holiday toy drive, aiming to support local children in need this festive season. The Toys for Kids drive seeks donations of new, unwrapped toys to assist approximately 200 families, benefiting around 570 children aged from infancy to 17 years old.

Last year, community support enabled the organization to overcome a significant toy donation shortfall, allowing them to serve nearly 1,000 families. This year, however, donations have decreased, leading the nonprofit to limit registration to just 200 families. Remarkably, these spots filled within less than 12 hours, highlighting the urgent need for assistance in the community.

How to Contribute and Event Details

To support the toy drive, donations can be dropped off daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Logan Heights CDC, located at 3040 Imperial Ave.. The deadline for toy donations is 6 p.m. on December 4. The organization has particularly emphasized the need for toys suitable for children aged 6 to 17 years.

In addition to in-person donations, contributions can also be made online at onecau.se/_e8bdm1. The distribution of toys for registered families will take place during the nonprofit’s annual Light Up Logan community celebration on December 5. This event will be held at The Soap Factory, located at 2995 Commercial St., from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The celebration will feature various holiday activities, including shopping with local small businesses, a festive tree lighting, kids’ crafts, and even real snow. Families will have the opportunity to visit with Santa and enjoy live music, making it a joyous occasion for all attendees.
