Cemetery Fees Rise as Community Events Engage Residents

Brookside Cemetery in South Deerfield will increase its plot fees significantly from $350 to $650 starting in July 2026. This change, approved by the Selectboard, aims to support the Department of Public Works’ (DPW) initiative to digitize and map all 13 cemeteries in Deerfield. The digital platform will streamline fee agreements through online software, with the fee increase also funding this project.

Selectboard Chair Trevor McDaniel expressed gratitude for the efforts of DPW Superintendent Matthew Morse in pushing this initiative forward. He acknowledged the increase but reassured residents that Deerfield’s cemetery fees remain low compared to neighboring towns, where costs range between $600 and $1,000 per plot.
