Travel across New York is experiencing a significant uptick as residents prepare for the winter season. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, various forms of transportation are being utilized at increased rates, signaling a recovery in both travel and economic activity.
For many, ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy is a top priority. Lisa Jackson, a traveler from Rochester, emphasizes the importance of preparation. “I’m a planner, so I know if I’m traveling, I’ve got to make sure I have everything done so I don’t have to worry about it,” she noted. Jackson is currently visiting Complete Automotive Solutions to confirm her car is ready for winter conditions.
Robust Travel Trends in New York
The demand for vehicle maintenance reflects a broader trend in travel across the state. Nick Mastrodonato, service manager at the auto repair shop, observed that many customers are scheduling maintenance appointments. “A lot of people are trying to do their maintenance before they go on trips. You know, make sure their tires, their brakes, suspension are all good for the long trips,” he explained.
According to Marie Therese Dominguez, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation, the travel landscape is robust. “We are definitely recovering from the government shutdown, particularly in the aviation sector,” she stated. Dominguez reported a full-scale return to travel in New York, with increases in the use of planes, trains, and roads.
Travelers are also benefiting from lower gas prices as the holiday season approaches. Paul Marone of the Repair Shop and Gasoline Dealers Association of New York noted, “The trend is still downward. I think that, right now, the holiday prices for gasoline are going to stay stable.”
Planning Ahead for Winter Travel
As millions plan their journeys this winter, maintaining vehicle readiness is crucial. Marone emphasized that ensuring one’s car is prepared for winter conditions can enhance safety and fuel efficiency. “Your car has to be ready for the weather. You can get good gas mileage if you prepare ahead,” he advised.
Dominguez also offered valuable tips for travelers. “My best advice is always plan ahead. Be in touch with your airline, download the app, make sure you know what your logistics are, where you need to go. Keep an eye on the weather, because obviously, it’s New York,” she said.
With the travel environment gaining momentum, New Yorkers are eagerly embracing the opportunity to explore. Whether by air, rail, or road, the state’s transportation systems are prepared to accommodate the surge in travel activity this winter. As residents gear up for their journeys, the focus remains on safety and preparedness, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their holiday travels.
