Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon Lead New Comedy at Amazon MGM

Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed its acquisition of the comedy film Compulsive Liar, featuring acclaimed actors Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. This project marks a significant collaboration for the duo, who previously garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay with their work on The Big Sick.

The film is an adaptation of the Quebec comedy Menteur, which was directed by Émile Gaudreault. The original story revolves around Simon, a habitual liar whose family and colleagues confront him through an intervention. When he refuses their help, he awakens to find that every lie he has told has come to life. The adaptation will be overseen by Emily Feher for 21 Laps, with Shawn Levy and Dan Levine producing alongside Nicolas Atlan and Sidonie Dumas from Gaumont.

The announcement of Compulsive Liar has sparked considerable interest as the film progresses through its development stages. Fans eagerly anticipate updates regarding its production timeline and release date. The involvement of Nanjiani and Gordon, both of whom have demonstrated their talents in prior projects, adds to the excitement surrounding this new venture.

In addition to Compulsive Liar, Nanjiani has been busy with multiple upcoming projects. His new stand-up special, Night Thoughts, is set to premiere on Hulu on December 19, 2023. His extensive television credits include roles in Only Murders in the Building, Poker Face, and Welcome to Chippendales. Additionally, he is set to appear in forthcoming films such as Ella McCay, Driver’s Ed, and The Breadwinner.

Gordon, who recently launched her production company Winter Coat with Nanjiani, has signed a first-look deal with Sony Television. This partnership is expected to yield more engaging content in the coming years, further establishing their presence in the entertainment industry.

As Amazon MGM Studios continues to expand its portfolio with unique comedic offerings, Compulsive Liar stands out as a promising addition. The combination of Nanjiani and Gordon’s past successes and the intriguing premise of the film sets high expectations for both audiences and critics alike.
