Lindsey Buckingham has confirmed he is releasing a new solo album, marking his first musical project in five years. In a recent social media post, the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist shared that this upcoming album encapsulates his artistic journey over the past 25 years. This will be his eighth solo effort and the first since the release of Lindsey Buckingham in 2021.
This announcement comes after a tumultuous period for Buckingham, who was ousted from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. His departure led to the recruitment of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn to fill his shoes during the band’s final performances. Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, replacing Bob Welch, and played a pivotal role in steering the band through its most successful years.
In a video posted to X, Buckingham expressed his excitement, stating, “This new album is the culmination of everything that I’ve learned from making solo albums over the last 25 years.” He emphasized that it reflects his commitment to maintaining a certain ethical and idealistic standard throughout his career.
Reunion with Mick Fleetwood Sparks New Creativity
Buckingham’s recent musical endeavors have been highlighted by his reunion with drummer Mick Fleetwood. The two were spotted in the studio together last March, collaborating for Fleetwood’s upcoming album. Swedish producer Carl Falk, who is working with Fleetwood, described the moment as “unreal,” marking the first collaboration between the two musicians in seven years.
Buckingham’s re-emergence into the music scene is further supported by the recent reissue of Buckingham Nicks, the 1973 album he created with former Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks. This record was instrumental in their eventual joining of Fleetwood Mac, and it continues to resonate with fans. Nicks has also carved out a successful solo career, with memorable hits like “Edge of Seventeen” and “Quit Draggin’ My Heart Around.”
Buckingham’s departure from Fleetwood Mac disappointed many fans, yet it provided a unique opportunity for Campbell, who was coping with the death of Tom Petty. Campbell recently shared that stepping into Buckingham’s role was a lifeline during a difficult time.
As Buckingham prepares to unveil his new project, he reflects on the breadth of his experiences over the decades. The forthcoming album promises to showcase his growth as an artist and his dedication to his craft.
In a music landscape that continues to evolve, the anticipation surrounding Buckingham’s new album is palpable. Fans are eager to witness how the culmination of his past influences will manifest in this latest work, set to be released on November 24, 2025.
