Barbara Todd Benson, aged 77, passed away on July 17, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, in 1948, Barbara moved to Santa Cruz, California, in 1953, where she would spend much of her life.
She attended Scotts Valley Junior High and graduated from Soquel High School in 1967. Following her education, she enrolled in Heald’s Business College. In 1989, Barbara relocated to Santa Rosa, where she continued to build her legacy.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Jeff Benson (Patti) of Henderson, Nevada, and Gary Benson (Shannon) of Fresno, California. She leaves behind five grandchildren—Nicole, Andrew, Lauren, Scott, and Dean—as well as a great-grandson named Lukas. Barbara also had two loving sisters, Laurie (Greg) of Portland, Oregon, and Nancy (Don) of Watsonville, California, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Her parents, Marty and Vi Todd, predeceased her. Throughout her life, Barbara exhibited a deep passion for creativity, engaging in activities such as sewing, quilting, crocheting, and gardening. Her family treasures the handmade items she crafted, reflecting her unique and artistic spirit.
Despite facing significant health challenges, including multiple cancers, Barbara maintained her quirky sense of humor and positive outlook until the end. She was known for never complaining, showing remarkable resilience in the face of adversity.
Private family services are planned to take place in Santa Cruz on what would have been her birthday. Her family expressed that she will be “forever loved and missed.” In her memory, they invite friends to honor Barbara with flowers or by planting a living memorial.
