Beloved Community Figure John Francis Nason Passes Away at 82

John Francis Nason, affectionately known as Jack, passed away at the age of 82 on December 20, 2025. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, including his wife and daughters. Jack’s life was characterized by unwavering love, joy, and dedication to his community.

Jack Nason is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sally Nason, and their three daughters: Amy Sturgis, married to Matt Sturgis; Holly Rowe, married to Nick Rowe; and Tammy Loring Terrano, married to Phillip Terrano. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished grandchildren: Porter Rooney and his fiancée Danielle Peach, Wyatt and Hale Rowe, Liza Sturgis, and Jack, Casey, Cora, and Julia Loring. He is also survived by his nephews, Andrew and John Backman.

Memorial Service and Tributes

A memorial service is scheduled for January 31, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, located at 100 Westbrook Street, South Portland. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Jack’s life at this service, followed by a reception at the Hillcrest Retirement Community Center, 108 Hillcrest Avenue, Scarborough.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to the American Lung Association, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330, or to the Southern Maine Detachment of the Marine Corps League, 142 Hennessy Dr., Portland, ME 04103. These contributions will honor Jack’s spirit of service to others.
