Her peaceful departure fulfilled her wish to spend her final moments in familiar surroundings, emphasizing her lifelong commitment to family values.
Born on August 13, 1928, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, Ann Marie Loge was the daughter of Hans and Mildred Loge. She married Lyle Kenneth Hanson on September 17, 1950, and together they raised three children: Peggy Ann Schulman (David), Sue Marie Tharaldson (Roger), and Brian Lyle Hanson (Shari). Ann Marie’s family life was marked by nightly rituals that included prayers before dinner and bedtime, reflecting her dedication to nurturing her children’s spiritual growth.
Her marriage to Lyle lasted 68 years, during which she was a devoted wife and mother. Ann Marie was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Jill Boyanovsky (Chris), Jen Lee (Damon), Joslynn Malam (Scott), Thor Wayne Hanson, Noah Kenneth Hanson (fiancée Meghan Erickson), and two great-grandchildren, Jace Harris and Kayla Tharaldson. She had a fondness for her three grand-dogs, Duke, Winston, and Jax, demonstrating her capacity for love and acceptance in all forms.
Ann Marie was known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills. She began working at the young age of 11 as a nanny and later pursued various roles, including a significant venture into the restaurant business. At 50, she successfully convinced Lyle to open “The Kaffe Hus” on Broadway in Albert Lea, which became a beloved local establishment. Additionally, she contributed her talents to National T grocery, First Lutheran Church, and the Standard Café.
A lifelong member of First Lutheran Church for over 80 years, Ann Marie was deeply integrated into her community. Her love for games was evident in her passion for bridge, which she played with family and friends. As the holiday season approached, she cherished making traditional dishes like Krumkake with her granddaughters, though she regretted not being able to prepare Lefsa this year.
Her family legacy is enriched by her strong character and determination. Ann Marie was preceded in death by Lyle, her parents, and several siblings, including her brother Mike, who died in the Korean War. She is survived by two brothers, Gene and Terry Loge. Each of her male relatives served in the U.S. military, underscoring a family tradition of service and sacrifice.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Ann Marie enjoyed dressing up for visits, church, and travel. She loved taking drives with family, finding joy in the simplest moments.
A visitation and celebration of life will take place on December 30, 2025, from 12:00 to 14:00 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at East Freeborn Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or gifts, her family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Ann Marie’s honor, ensuring her legacy of generosity and love continues to resonate within the community.
