On March 15, 2024, Castle Noel officially opened its new Starlight Room restaurant in Medina, Ohio, offering a unique dining experience complete with a spectacular 10,000-light ceiling show. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries, including Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell and various council members.
A Vision Realized
Castle Noel, known for its extensive collection of Christmas memorabilia, has been a beloved attraction since its opening in 2013. Owner Mark Claus, whose name adds a festive touch to the venture, has long envisioned a restaurant that would enhance the overall experience for visitors. “It’s something I always planned on,” Claus stated. “This is a family project, and it grows every year.”
The Starlight Room reflects Claus’ commitment to creating a comprehensive holiday atmosphere. Every year, he has invested in equipment and renovations, gradually bringing his vision to life. “I wanted it to feel more like a resort,” Claus remarked, highlighting the newly renovated outdoor space, which includes heated concrete areas near the restaurant and an outdoor stage.
A Magical Dining Experience
The restaurant features a menu that caters to all tastes, offering burgers, paninis, salads, and a special “elves in training” menu for children. Many dishes are creatively themed around Christmas characters, such as the Cindy Lou Who Caprese, inspired by the classic story “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.”
The Starlight Room’s most striking feature is the ceiling adorned with 10,000 lights, synchronized to music that plays every 15 minutes. “It just adds to the magic of the whole experience,” Claus commented, emphasizing his ongoing quest to enhance the attraction’s appeal.
Decor in the restaurant is cozy and inviting, with tasteful holiday displays and framed vintage advertisements gracing the walls. Claus’ favorite element is the subtle instrumental version of “Silent Night,” which creates a serene ambiance. “It’s all about the memories,” he reflected, noting the emotional connection he has to the place.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is further enriched by outdoor elements, including a nod to film history with Cousin Eddie’s motor home from the 1989 movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” This addition, along with the festive decorations, aims to immerse visitors in the holiday spirit.
As visitors arrived for the opening, Claus greeted them with humor, encouraging everyone to enjoy the festivities. His infectious enthusiasm and dedication to creating a memorable experience were evident throughout the event.
Since its inception, Castle Noel has consistently evolved, with Claus investing in property enhancements that reflect his vision. The Starlight Room marks a significant milestone in this journey, offering a delightful dining option that complements the museum’s extensive Christmas collection.
Castle Noel is located at 260 S. Court St., Medina, just off Medina Square. The museum offers public and private tours, with admission prices varying and discounts available. For more information, visit castlenoel.com/hours.
