Celebrating the Life of Artist and Musician Dennis M. Fournier

Artist and musician Dennis M. Fournier, aged 65, passed away on March 14, 2025, due to complications from a stroke. Born on June 2, 1959, in Portland, Maine, Fournier was celebrated for his artistic contributions and vibrant personality throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy marked by creativity and cherished relationships.

A Passion for Art and Music

Dennis grew up in South Portland, where he attended local schools and graduated from South Portland High School. He pursued higher education at the University of Maine, where he honed his skills and deepened his passion for the arts. Known for his extraordinary talent, Fournier’s artwork graced numerous locations across Maine, from the Eastern and Western Promenades to the iconic Portland Headlight and the beaches of Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth.

Often found painting en plein air, Dennis engaged with the community, with many of his pieces sold directly from the canvas at local hotspots. His artwork was proudly displayed in various businesses, coffee shops, and bakeries, showcasing his connection to the local culture.

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Fournier was an accomplished guitarist. He enjoyed sharing his love for music with friends, performing at various venues in the greater Portland area. Dennis frequently participated in lively jam sessions with his family, often joining his nieces and nephews in playful musical exchanges.

A Life of Friendship and Joy

Friendship was a cornerstone of Dennis’s life. He cultivated lasting relationships, starting with his childhood group known as “The Corner Gang.” His love for art and music allowed him to connect with many people, and he was deeply appreciative of the support he received from his friends and family. Dennis was known for his engaging conversations, which often blended humor and spirited debate, leaving those around him with lasting memories.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Jameson Fournier and William D. Fournier. He is survived by his older brother, Dana W. Fournier, and sister-in-law Lori; his sister, Donna M. Piscopo, and brother-in-law Tom; as well as several nieces and nephews, including April D. Fournier and Megan L. Chasse, along with their children.

A Celebration of Life honoring Dennis Fournier will be held at North 43 Bistro, located at 1 Spring Point Drive, on November 30 from 16:00 to 19:00. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a man whose creativity and warmth touched so many lives.
